About 2-1-1 Big Bend

• 2-1-1 Big Bend provides a 24 hour free community hotline service called Helpline 2-1-1 offering individual, confidential counseling and human service information.
• Founded in 1970, 2-1-1 Big Bend is an independent, nonprofit organization that is widely respected and recognized as the Big Bend's leading resource for confidential hotline support services.
• 2-1-1 Big Bend provides help and information on: relationship issues, domestic violence, suicide, mental health concerns, substance abuse, grief, pregnancy, rape, abuse, crisis, housing assistance, disabilities, teen concerns, youth behavior problems and community information and referrals.
• A free, searchable resource database is provided on our website at www.211bigbend.org.
• 2-1-1 Big Bend is also the statewide hotline provider for Floridians seeking HIV/AIDS information, breast and cervical cancer information, family health information and parenting support.
• Each day, 2-1-1 Big Bend typically receives approximately 175 hotline calls including at least one suicide call.
• On February 11, 2003, the agency launched its new 2-1-1 three-digit number for easy access to 24-hour hotline services. Now Big Bend area residents can call 2-1-1 to receive counseling, information and referral services. The 10-digit (850) 617-6333 Helpline 2-1-1 number is still available for callers who are calling from outside the Big Bend area.
• 2-1-1 is a state and national initiative. Information about the national 2-1-1 movement is available at www.211.org.
• Currently, 2-1-1 serves approximately 219 million Americans – over 72% of the entire population – through 238 active 2-1-1 systems in 43 states including 15 in Florida.
• 2-1-1 is an innovative response to society's demand for critical community information access - saving money and time by helping cut through the confusing maze of information and services that frequently overwhelm individuals, and providing a entry point for social assistance.
• For several years, the United Way of the Big Bend (UWBB) has been the primary funding source for the 2-1-1 Big Bend local services. Other agency funding comes from the City of Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida Department of Children and Families, Florida Department of Health, private contributions and program service fees.
